About Us
What exactly is halal tourism? It's a type of tourism created for Muslim families who follow Islamic rules. That includes sticking to a halal diet and dining at restaurants that don’t serve alcohol during travel. Some hotels have become aware of Muslims' lifestyle, therefore including prayer facilities, a prayer compass in rooms, and separate swimming pools for men and women. Research shows Muslims spent $137 billion on tourism in 2012 , with this figure expecting to reach $181 billion by 2020. The Muslim Travel Index illustrated out of the $32 billion spent by tourists in the UK in 2013, the biggest spenders were Muslim countries in the Middle East. Tourists from the Middle East spent $274 per person per day amounting to $1.6 billion for the year in the UK alone. Countries with an Islamic background such as Malaysia, Turkey, Spain, and Thailand provide halal hotels, halal tours, even halal honeymoon packages. Japan has recently jumped on the the halal tourism bandwagon to attract more tourists. Just like there are online booking websites like Kayak.com and Booking.com, there are now Muslim-friendly booking websites like Halaltrip.com and Us.Halalbooking.com. Over the past few months, I have been meeting and talking to people who make halal tourism happen. From halal food festivals in New Jersey to an Islamic travel agency in the heart of Los Angeles, halal tourism has found it's way to the United States.
