I'm a multimedia journalist based in Los Angeles pursuing an M.S. in journalism at USC Annenberg.

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, and, like many of my fellow Angelenos, am a child of immigrants. My parents left their home in Shanghai, China in the late 1980s to build their new home in America.

This project was born out of a desire to better understand my own parents—to show the struggles brought on by the language barrier and see how different families communicate.

In Los Angeles, where at least 224 languages are spoken, it's important to realize that it's this incredible diversity that makes living in this city a new adventure every day.
